People of Manchester. Do you find it hard to motivate yourself:
• To Go Down The Gym?
• To Train Hard When You Eventually Get There?

As a personal trainer, I see a lot of people who are just going through the motions. They drag themselves down to the gym and then do a half-hearted workout.

I acknowledge the fact that they are trying to achieve an increase in general health and wellbeing, but it is blatantly obvious to me that they do not have a specific reason for going to the gym, They are in need of a personal fitness training program.

The average person I talk to has the goal to lose weight, however this is a goal that gives you neither direction nor excitement to do something about achieving it. So this leads us to the,

1st way to turbocharge your motivation for the gym

Set an exciting, believable and specific goal – Once you have set a specific goal that excites you, break this down into small manageable pieces so that every time you reach a new milestone you can celebrate the fact you are one step closer to your goal. This on its own will dramatically increase your motivation for the gym.

2nd way to turbocharge your motivation for the gym

Take Photographs every month and post them somewhere where others will see them. State what you are doing and what you will achieve within the next 4 weeks. State the date and the result you will achieve on that date. This then adds to your motivation as you are no longer just letting yourself down if you don’t achieve your desired goal, but also your followers / friends / family.

3rd way to turbocharge your motivation for the gym

Have a role model, find someone who has achieved what you want to achieve and research what they did and what motivated them to achieve their dream body. If it isn’t broke don’t fix it, by copying what someone else has done before to achieve what you want, you are pretty much guaranteed to succeed if you just follow their plan of action.

4th way to turbocharge your motivation for the gym

Train in the best place for you; decide what time you want to train at and what kind of gym you want to train at? Choose a gym based on where you will be based at the time you want to train. Don’t choose a gym near home so that you can train at night, if you really want to train on your dinner break, instead pick a gym next to work. If you would be more motivated in a single sex gym, choose a single sex gym, if you would prefer to train with others possibly consider a group training institution, you may find that you train best by going to a spa in the country side where it is highly exclusive and you are not bothered by others. Whatever you find to be the most effective way to train, do that; don’t waste time at a gym that doesn’t motivate you.

5th way to turbocharge your motivation for the gym

Be made accountable by getting someone else involved in your goal, this could be a friend, a gym instructor or a personal trainer, basically a training partner or someone who monitors your progress and holds you accountable. Don’t make the mistake of picking a training partner who will sink into bad habits with you, ensure that they are a motivated individual who has a specific goal that they are well on the way to achieving.

That’s it, put these into place and turbocharge your motivation for the gym.
